NEWTON MOTOR ABILITY TEST FOR HIGH SCHOOL GIRLS
Experimenting
with ten test items, Powell and Howe developed the Newton test of motor ability
for high school girls, 22 composed of the standing broad jump, a “baby” hurdle
race, and a “scramble” test. The multiple correlation of these with a composite
criterion of eighteen items, selected on the basis of strength, power, speed,
and coordination, is .91. Other criteria were also used, in which these same
items occupied a favored position. Directions for giving the Powell and Howel
items are given below.
Purpose: To
measure motor ability for High Girls.

STANDING BROAD JUMP
Purpose: To measure “Leg explosive power of the person.
Age and Sex: High school girls
Equipment and Material:
Either a mat of floor may be used for
this test marking materials change, or chalk need for the starting like along
with a tape measure to mark off increment of distance along the standing are.
Course and Marking:
Description:
The subject stands behind a line marked
on the ground with feet slightly apart. A two-foot take-off and landing is
used, with swinging of the arms and bending of the knees to provide forward
drive. The subject attempts to jump as far as possible, landing on both feet
without falling backwards. Three attempts are allowed.
Scoring:
The number of inches between the
starting line and the nearest heat upon ending is the score three trails are
permitted and then test total is recorded and the score.
2.
BABY HURDLES
Purpose: To
improve agility speed and change of direction.
Age and Sex: High
school girls.
Equipment and Material:
Ten Gymnasium benches five split bamboo sticks hurdles
Indian club.
Course and Marking:
Description:
Ten Gymnasium benches and five split
bamboo sticks and used for setting up the hurdles. Is five years from the starting
line the other one at their yard intervals an India club or substitute is
placed three yards beyond the last hurdles the subject runs over the hurdles
around the Indian club and back over the hurdles to the starting line penalties
one not imposed for disc lapping hurdles time is recorded to the nearest fifth

Scoring:

3.
SCRAMBLE
Purpose: To
improve agility feed and change of direction.
Age and Sex: High
school girls.
Equipment and Material: A
jumping standard is arranged with a small self (five first above the floor
bell.
Course and Marking:
Description:
The subject starts from a back-lying
position on the floor with both feet against the wall & the arms stretched
sideways at a shoulder level, palms down at the signal gets up, runs & taps
bell twice, returns to the starting position, repeated made the 4th double tap
of the bell.
Scoring:
It is recorded to the nearest 5th of a
second.
